What we store about you

Your email address, your Google account id, and an encrypted token that lets via export the documents you picked. Nothing else from your Google account.

Access to your documents

You choose your documents through the Google Picker, Google’s own file chooser. It runs on Google’s side, and picking a document is what hands via read-only access to that one file. We cannot browse, search, or open anything else in your Drive, and we never see a document you haven’t picked.

We never modify anything, and sharing settings are never changed. Your documents stay private in your Drive; we cache the exported PDF so your link stays fast and keeps working.

via’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

What we log about your readers

When someone opens a link we record a timestamp, the referring site’s hostname, and a country code. No cookies, no IP addresses, no identity. That’s the entire analytics dataset. We process it ourselves and in PostHog (EU hosted), always keyed to the link, never to the reader.

Cookies

Readers of a via link get no cookies at all. If you have an account, we set three, all strictly necessary: one keeps you signed in, and two short-lived ones carry a Google sign-in through to the end. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.

Our own analytics run in cookieless mode: nothing is stored on your device, and visits are counted with a hash that our analytics provider rotates daily and then discards. That is why via has no cookie banner.

Who else processes your data

We keep this list short on purpose. Today it is:

• Cloudflare for hosting, database, and storage. Your account data and cached PDFs are stored in the European Union.
• PostHog for product analytics and error tracking, on their EU cloud.
• Google for the documents themselves, since that is where they already live. We call Google’s APIs on your behalf to read the docs you picked and export them as PDFs.
• Lemon Squeezy for payments, and only if you buy a paid plan. They are the seller of record, so they take the payment, hold the card details and send the receipt. via never sees your card. They get your email address, because that is what a receipt needs.

We don’t sell your data, and we don’t share it with anyone else. If that list changes, this page changes with it.

How long we keep things

Download records are kept for as long as your link exists, so your analytics don’t silently lose their history. They hold no personal data about your readers. Exported PDFs are only a cache: we delete them 30 days after we make them, and rebuild them from your document the next time someone opens the link. Delete a link and its records and cached PDF go with it.

Deletion

Deleting your account removes your links, cached PDFs, analytics, and account data, and revokes via’s access to your Google account. This happens immediately, not on a schedule.

Emails we send you

We email you when you sign up, when one of your links stops working, and the first time a link is downloaded. They go through Cloudflare, already on the list above. The last two can be turned off in Settings; the first is a one-off that confirms your account exists.

Getting a copy of your data

Settings has a "Download my data" button. It gives you a JSON file with your account details, every link you made, and every download those links recorded. You do not have to ask us, and you do not have to say why. If the file is ever incomplete, it says so at the end, and you can download it again.
